- DEVELOPMENT OF THE BABY
5–7 days after fertilization, the blastula attaches to the wall of the uterus (endometrium). When it comes into contact with the endometrium it performs implantation. Implantation connections between the mother and the embryo will begin to form, including the umbilical cord. The embryo's growth centers around an axis, which will become the spine and spinal cord. The brain, spinal cord, heart, and gastrointestinal tract begin to form
At 4 weeks pregnant, the placenta continues to thicken until the fourth month of pregnancy. The placenta actually matches the needs of your baby with the nutrients available from you to give him the specific nutrients he needs at the time. Although it's made up of shared tissue, the placenta does not allow blood from your body and your baby's to come in direct contact.

While the hormonal changes in the body are often thought to be the cause of many emotional changes, there is another reason why mom may feel a bit under the weather during and after the pregnancy.
Other emotional changes during pregnancy may include feeling uncomfortable with having a baby, feeling anxious about caring for the new baby and even negative emotions about the baby from time to time as sleep deprivation takes its toll on the new mother and father.
- THINGS THE MOM AND DAD SHOULD BE THINKING OF DOING
Avoid alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products.
Talk to their doctor about any prescription and nonprescription (OTC) drugs they are taking.
